Emma Villavecchia is a choreographer and performer currently living in Barcelona. She graduated with a BA from Bennington College (Vermont, USA), where she specialized in contemporary dance. At Bennington she developed her own choreographic works under the mentorship of Dana Reitz, Susan Sgorbati, and Terry Creach, and had the chance to train with many exceptional teachers, such as Souleymane Badolo, Stuart Singer, Elena Demyanenko, Daniel Roberts, Mina Nishimura, Katie Martin, and Ain Gordon. She also performed in new works by invited choreographers Gwen Welliver and Kota Yamazaki, as well as in Susan Sgorbati's "Emergent improvisation" work. For her graduation concert, she choreographed the solo "Lacuna" and a group piece with original live music entitled "Quintet for Square". She also collaborated with Finn Murphy in the creation of his graduation work "Tryptich Redux".

During the past four years, Emma has complemented her training at Bennington College with different workshops and intensives at recognized schools in Barcelona, Brussels, and Berlin. Although contemporary-release is her main focus, she has also trained in ballet, cunningham, partnering, flying-low, hip-hop, and african dance, amongst others. Besides training, Emma is an avid dance viewer, which provides her with an understanding of the historical and current choreographic context she is working in. Reacting to a wide range of dance propositions is a key aspect in developing her own critical eye and artistic values.

Emma is now continuing to train and develop her own choreographic practice in Barcelona. At the moment, she is interested in tapping into new movement approaches as well as training with masters of contemporary dance in order expand her physical range and conceptual horizons. She is also interested in working for other choreographers, collaborating with other dancers, and developing a physical practice that can be shared with others.
